Is it Summer in San Diego Already?

....well a 'summer like' day in January, sunny and 70, we will take advantage of that any day!
Nothing says 'summer like' making chalk drawing in the shade after riding your bike around the neighborhood.

Will you just look at those Big Brown eyes- so full of wonder!
Lola is focused and working on her masterpiece of a "spider"!
Nothing says 'summer like' making your own bubbles just for laughs...
.... and doing sprint races with you twin sissy.
(I'll have to admit anytime I want the girls to get-a-move-on all I have to say is "Ready Get Set GO" and their off running like the wind).

Is the count down to summer officially on?
Well it's hard not to start counting when you get a taste of it here and there.
My count down started back in September, but I don't let it make me skip over the great days of Winter!

Room Change...

After some deliberation, Tony and I decided it would be best to separate the girls beds. For the past year the girls' beds have been pushed together (by request from the girls), but bed time was just turning  into play time because of it. Don't get me wrong, I love to hear the girls giggle together and play made up games as they  fall asleep, but the playtime just started to stretch out too long- sometimes almost 1.5 hours.
So this is what the girls' room looks like now. The girls actually love it too, they think they have a whole new room with new toys and the switch gave them so much more play space too!

I learned to sew!

One of my New Years resolutions was to learn how to sew and since my mom was a master seamstress in her time she volunteered to teach me how to sew. She passed down this sewing machine and spent the girls' nap times teaching me to sew. By the time the weekend was over we had completed 4 dresses, 2 for each of the girls! Thanks Mom! I am so excited, I feel like I might have just opened up Pandora's box!

The girls went with us to the fabric store and picked out their very own material for their birthday dress. Of course it had to be blue! They were so excited to see their material turned into a dress!

Grandma came to town!

Pizza-in-the-making!
Since Grandma was in town we had to make it fun, so we had a Friday night Pizza Party!
Everyone got to make their own special variety!

Yummy!
Choo-Choo!
Grandma got conned into riding the "train" too! The more passengers the merrier for the girls!
A day at the Museum!
On Saturday we headed to the Children's Museum, a great place to spend a rainy day!
(The kids might of had the most fun walking in the rain under the umbrellas, on the way into the museum!)
Making clay objects with such concentration.

It was a non-stop fun weekend with Grandmas around!

Book Buddies #1

I love children's books, especially children's picture book. At times I think I became a elementary school teacher solely to be able to have an excuse to read and collect children's books even as an adult. Eric Carle tops the list of Authors, if for nothing else but his illustrations. "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" was the title we decided to use to start our book buddy collection. After reading this lovely tale multiple times the girls set out to make their very own Hungry Caterpillar. They absolutely loved making it and it was amazing how they were able to talk about the story and it's elements while making their caterpillar book buddy. They talked about what their caterpillar would eat and how it would eat some of the same things that The Very Hungry Caterpillar ate. Now when they read this book, they can read it with their little 'book buddy'.

STEP ONE: paint the egg cartons

STEP TWO: have fun and smile while doing it

STEP THREE: add the antennas, eye, and mouth
Wallah! The girls have made their very first book buddy!

Lola and Ellie have decided that "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle will be their next book buddy.

Bedtime Routine...

So bedtime was becoming quite labor intensive for mom and dad and we found ourselves yelling too much and handing out too many empty threats. Something I hate catching myself doing. Since we know that kids will do anything for attention (either negative or positive), we decided to bring back the sticker chart and start focusing on the positive. When they fill up the chart they get to go to Yogurt Land!  (I know reward my kids with sugar is not the best lesson -but they're two). It really has given them control over their bedtime routine and it has helped mom and dad be more positive!

Daddy's Helpers!

Maybe only people who are close to our family and know our family dynamics will appreciate this shot, but it is too cute not to include in our scrapbook we call a blog. These girls want everything to do with their Daddy these days and that does not exclude his morning routine!

BLOCKS GALORE!

The girls love building and they love blocks! I wish I videoed taped them playing with these blocks. If I did you would have saw them planning their birthday party, building princess towers, and rescuing people from danger. It was great just to sit by and listen to the conversation they were having!

Goofy Girls!

The girls and have been spending a lot of time in the tent these days... They turn into such Goofy Girls when they enter the tent! I have pictures to proof it!

Elmo likes the tent too!
So these girls aren't being too goofy here, but I just can't get over how much these girls like to paint. We actually ran out of all our paint today, so we took a trip to Michael's and stocked up!
The girls insisted on painting rainbows with their new paint!
To quote Fresh Beat Band (the girls' favorite band)
"It was a great day!"

Little Pricesses...

These ladies dressed up and were  headed out on the town...so they said. The girls stated they were going to their favorite restaurant "Fisha-Feta" (don't ask, because I don't know, they always talk about going to Fisha Feta, and we just go along with it). They made daddy be their waiter and ordered things like chocolate soup, fries, and salad.
I love seeing their imaginations soar!

Book Stack

So they say you can tell a lot a bout a person by what they are reading, here is my book stack for 2012. One of which I have 1/2 started The Social Animal and one that I started New year's eve and already finished. The Paleo Diet, very eye opening! Reading never used to be something I picked to do on my free time, but these day I am trying to find more time to read because it slows me down, makes me think, and is a more meaningfully form of entertainment than watching TV.

Simplicity

Nothing says simple like looking at the world through the eyes of a child!

This coming year I have decided to live by a few mottoes.
Slow Down
Less is More
Cleanse

Watching my girls find simplistic enjoyment in something as simple as bubbles makes me reflect on what I really what to discover in 2012. I want to truly Slow Down and enjoy each moment as Lola and Ellie seems to do so easily. Life gets in the way of simple things, and I want to be conscious about not letting the everyday routines of life spoil the sweet moments that happen everyday!
I have realized that for me less is MORE! Less clutter, fewer obligations, fewer choices, less stuff, and less noise and stimulation truly do make me happy! My goal this year is to say NO more!
Cleanse is a word that can encompass a lot of things. My goal this year is to try and cleanse all negative out of every aspect of my life. In what I put into body, what thoughts I have about myself and others, what guilt, resentments, lack of contentment, and jealously I hold onto. I want to pare down and focus on the choices I make on a daily basis and how those choices are contributing to my personal happiness- because I know that when I am truly happy those around me are happier, I am more energetic and productive, and I am an all around better person.

I blog about these goals for no other reason but simply so I can look back and keep myself accountable.

Happy 2012!!!
Looking forward to what this year brings!
