Mommy Makeover!

I am sure I do not need to narrate what went on before this picture was taken, but I will. Lola and Ellie caught mom in a very willing mood and wanted to play make-up and hair salon. This is how their subject turned out. Not bad for two three year olds... I'm sure I could have come out a lot worse!
I imagine this is the first of many mommy makeovers!

Sunny Sea World!

Since at times it feels like summer in February when you live in San Diego, we decided to meet our Friends Lindsay, Declan, and Lexi for a "winter day" of fun in the sun! Last Monday I had the day off work, Happy Birthday George Washington! It was a great way to spend the day off-
Lola and Ellie were sure thrilled!
All four of the kiddos had a great time on the super sized jungle gym!
This was the girls first time on this element (they were now tall enough-kind of),
needless to say they loved it!

My goofy Ellie, this is how she rode all the way home!

Auntie Sara and Auntie Sarah...

This is just a cute shot that was taken a while ago. We were at Uncle Drew and Auntie Sara's house for a football game and the girls wanted to "take a nap" in Auntie Sara's big new bed! Well I couldn't resist either. Two cuties ready for play time and as you can tell there were two other cuties ready for a nap!
My bestie Sarah (aka Mommy's Auntie Sarah - to the girls)
was down last week just for a visit and to celebrate her birthday!
Here were are outside of our new FAVORITE restaurant,
STACKED at Fashion Valley Mall- so cool and so good!
Auntie Sarah hooked the girls up with some very fashionable Barbies for their birthday!
The girls are lucky they have TWO Auntie Sara(h)'s

Three Year Check Up!

The girls had their three year check up today! I am happy to report that the girls are healthy and happy toddlers. Tony and I were so proud of Lola and Ellie, they did everything that was asked of them at the doctors. They stood on the scale and then against the wall to check their height. They read the vision chart and participated in the hearing check. They sat together on the bed and let the doctor look in thier eyes, ears, mouth, and they even let the doctor check their heart and lungs. No fighting, no tears- man are our little ones growing up. Such behavior deserved a reward, so afterward we headed straight to Jamba Juice for a strawberry smoothie, their favorite!

Two Day Blue Birthday Bash!

When the girls were asked what kind of a birthday they wanted they both said BLUE!
As you can see, to their delight, the girls woke up on Friday to a sea of blue!

After enjoying the new blue house, we headed off to do their next favorite thing JUMP!
We invited a few of their friends to join us at Pump-It-Up for an hour and a half of non-stop jumping and fun!
Aiden, Liam, Ella, Declan, and Lexi were among the friends that joined us! I'll say the moms had a bit of fun jumping too!

Lola and Ellie made a bucket full of yummy snacks and  treat bags with rice crispy treats for all of their friends to enjoy!
Couldn't leave the party without a turn at the arcades.
Somehow the girls were not able to nap after all of the activities, so I took advantage of them not napping and we worked together on making their blue cupcakes for the next night.
Since we were having the family over the next night to celebrate the girls birthday, we were just going to take them out to an easy dinner this night. When we asked the girls what restaurant they wanted to go to they said that they just wanted to stay home and have the pizza man bring pizza so Daddy could get into the couch and they can snuggle with him. Tony and I could not believe this was their answer- it was so sweet! So that is exactly what we did!

Lola and Ellie got to open a few presents from their mom and dad...
...and of course they had to have a little cake on their actually birthday!
(I don't know why my now three year olds are always half naked...
It doesn't really phase me until I load the pictures on my computer and notice they took their cloths off)
Lola and Ellie's Blue Birthday Party
Now if you planned on attending this birthday dinner you had to wear blue- orders from the birthday girls themselves! This little party was bursting with blue, from the decorations to the food, from the wardrobe to the presents. Even their fingernails were blue!

Auntie Sara, Uncle Drew, Emma, Kaps, Monte, Auntie Missi, Aiden, Liam, Candace, Mommy & Daddy were among the guests at the party!

(I guess our house was a bit warm, the frosting melted right off their cakes)
Sugar High in full affect time (for those guest under 5 anyway)!
Happy 3rd  Birthday Lola and Ellie
Lola and Ellie,  Mom and Dad hope you had wonderful birthday and we hope you know just how much you are loved and adored. Our lives would not be complete without both of your smiles and both of your sweet hearts! We love you, our birthday girls!

New Bundle of Joy!

We are so excited!
We have a new little niece and the girls have a new baby cousin!
Shaelynn Lily Koehler
She was born 2/13 and is healthy at 8 lbs 5 oz.
We are beyond excited to have another precious little girl join our family!
Congratulations Shaun and Katie, she is so beautiful!

My Second Attempt at sewing...

The girls picked this shark material out even before I learned how to sew. I bought it knowing I would eventually learn how to sew and someday would use it to make something for them. Well here it is. I felt pretty confident this time; I followed the pattern, operated the sewing machine, and completed two dresses all on my own. Though I love the material and the details I added (fabric rosettes and fish buttons) I do think it kind of turned out like a Moo Moo. That really didn't seem to bother the girls though.

After completing these with success, I am ready to attempt some more difficult patterns.
My next project is a skirt with elastic and all!

Simple Saturday Stuff

We had a simple Saturday full of cuteness!

Here Lola is wearing her new outfit she received in the mail the other day for her birthday (Thank you Aunt Joanie- they love them and wont take them off). Lola was so excited to wear this big fluffy skirt to dance class, but not before she posed with her umbrella and got chased by her sister.

and just more cuteness from their Saturday dance class...

Ellie was actually attempting to do the air guitar with her legs.

Life Happens

As I headed into this New Year and pondered the resolutions I wanted to make, my consistent prayer was that I would be able to slow down and simply be more present in each moment, not letting anything take me away from the day I was given. It is amazing how my prayer was answered this early into the year, and I did not have to work hard to gain perspective on the value of each moment. About a month ago I had a mole removed from my back that turned out to be malignant Melanoma. When I received the phone call from my doctor, I was shocked to find out that what I thought was a routine biopsy was much more serious and required further surgical intervention. After all I am a healthy, 32 year old woman, and you are telling me I have cancer. I was struck with real fear; a fear of the unknown journey ahead of me. Being a parent and hearing news like that makes your mind (well at least mine) spiral out of control -all you can think about is your children's future. You feel helpless and out of control. The only thing I could do was fall to my knees, pray, and trust in the Lord- that he would guide the path I was about to take and lead me through whatever the outcome. A week after having a wide excision of the affected area, lymphatic mapping, and a removal of one lymph node, it was revealed that all the cancer had been removed and all margins were clear- praise God for answered prayers.

As I reflect on this past month, I am truly grateful for this journey and the anxiety I felt, though how insignificant it was in comparison to the reality that many cancer victims face on a daily basis. I truly believe that through every trial or challenge one must face, there is always something to be learned and something to be gained, and this trail was no different. I have learned that sunscreen is my new best friend; my reason for going primal and organic in my diet is not just for overall health, but for cancer prevention as well; and that although I love the sun, I can love it just as much from under a shade tree. I know now that my body, which I previously thought invincible, is not, and that I need to take care of every inch. I have gained a deeper yet over flowing gratitude for my simple life and my beautiful family. I have learned that you never know when the phone will ring and what news it will bear, so live in the moment that was so graciously given to you and be present, alert, and live that moment with intention. I have full heartedly learned yet again - that God is good and gives you strength and comfort when in need. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will guide your path.” (Proverbs 3:5-6) This is a verse that sits on my night stand and greets me as I embark on the day ahead, it's comforting to know that we are not alone in this journey we call life!

The girls' kind of super bowl party!

Super Bowl, what? The girls had no idea that the biggest sporting event of the year was taking place this afternoon, all they cared about was the unlimited supply of sugar and of course the wonderful jumpy. To be honest Tony and I weren't that into the game this year either- we had no interest watching those two teams yet again. But we did have a good time anyway hanging out at our church super bowl party catching up with friends and meeting some new ones.
