Swim Lessons 2013

The start of summer means the start of swim lessons, at least in our family anyway. The girls took two weeks of swim lessons through the recreation department at daddy's Alma Mater USD. Overall, I think the lessons went pretty well. The girls now have a good grasp on the four year old version of the freestyle, they have perfected their float, and most important Tony and I believe that Lola and Ellie are water safe.  They can swim a good distance on their own, float when they are tired, they can dive down to fetch a ring and make it back to the wall independently. They also can jump into the water, swim out to a point and back again without assistance. Though the girls were up and down with their enthusiasm for these lessons, they have come out more confident swimmers and are giving mom and dad a little relief when it comes to summer time water play.

WEEK TWO

Ellie braved it the last day of the session and jumped off the big diving board (three times).

VIDEOS
Here is a compilation video of the girls swimming.

Here is Ellie showing off her "ice cream scoop" strokes
while remembering to flip over and breath when she needs air or a rest.

Lola is much more comfortable swimming in our pool than in USD's pool with the instructor.
I had a video on my phone of Lola showing off what she has learned these past two weeks of swim lessons by swimming the length of our pool on her own, but lost it some how. I am sure there will be many more of those videos to come though!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Yesterday was Tony's birthday! The and I made sure he felt pretty special!
The girls were so excited to celebrate daddy's birthday. They wanted to put up streamers, make his cake,  and plan a special day! So that is exactly what we did (except Tony had some plans too).
After some morning birthday fun, daddy surprised the girls and took them out for some kid fun on HIS birthday. We headed to Belmont Park for the afternoon. Tony said it made his day to see his girls so happy! They sure did smile a lot, especially on the Tilt-A-Wheel!

Beach, sun, cotton candy- can't get much better than that.

Home to daddy's favorite dinner- Fresh Swordfish!

Of course Daddy's birthday would not be complete without a handmade cake from his girls.
YUMMY!

PERFECT!

Happy Birthday Daddy, Cheers to a great year!

Camping - our kickoff to summer

There are many things I like and a few things I don't about camping. Among the things I like about camping,  my very favorite is that it brings the K.I.D. out of the kid. These little ladies were all kid, 100% 4 years old with nothing to do but play all day, all weekend. They took advantage of all the freedom and all the space to do just that! (You will notice that Lola is wearing her bike helmet in most of the pictures, it is because that girl would not stay off her bike all weekend.) That is why I think camping is a perfect way to start the summer. The day after school was out we headed to Dos Picos which is just under an hour away to stay a few nights in a cabin we discovered last year.

It was a great way weekend, but we were all happy to get home where a hot shower was waiting!
