Summer Vacation 2013 {part 2 of 3} ... YOSEMITE

After spending two days at my parents house, we headed west into Yosemite Nation Park to spend two days camping and hiking in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. My parents, along with my nephews Aiden and Liam, joined us for our stay in Yosemite.

Since there is SO much to see and we only had about two-and-a-half days to see it, we didn't waist any time. After checking into our tent cabin in Curry Village we headed out to take in the view from the top of Glacier point. Of course we made lots of stops on the way to take in the scenery.
First stop: Tunnel landing
The smoke you see in the valley was only presenting itself in the evening. A fire that had been burning since May was creating all of this smoke. We missed the bigger fire in Yosemite by two days.

We made it up Glacier Point-about 8,000 feet in elevation. This view presents the entire Yosemite Valley, including views of Half Dome and El Capitan.  There was lightening over Half Dome when we were there which made the view that much cooler!

Oh Ellie... yes that is an 8,000 foot drop behind that railing...
as your daddy always says, "small moves Ellie, small moves."

We stayed in these tent cabins in Curry Village. They were perfect accommodations for what we needed. We needed a place to sleep and store our things, because the rest of the time we were out and about the park. Curry village had restaurants, a pool, showers, and shops. Though the accommodation were suitable, we were relieved that we were only spending two nights in the tents.

The next day we took the tram to a few different hiking spots.
Here is Lola and Grandma waiting for the tram.

Tony and me waiting for the tram, photo taken by Ellie- she is getting pretty good at snapping shots.
Lola was obsessed with using maps on our whole trip. It was so cute how she would map out our hiking trails and inform all about where we were and where we needed to go. Here is Lola on the tram making sure the driver is headed in the correct direction.
Hiking to Yosemite Falls, Lola loved hiking with her daddy.

on the trial we saw a eight point  buck... so cool!

resting on a tree bench... I just love these pics.

Oh yeah, did I mention Yosemite Falls was just a trickle this time of year,
but it was still a beautiful hike.

We sure know how to tire these little ladies of ours,
so Tony and I let the kids rest with the grandparents as we hiked to Mirror lake.
Next stop, a hike down to the Merced River for a dip in the freezing cold water. I will have to say all of us made it into the water except Grandma, she was the smart one and stayed warm on the shore.

This spot was one of my favorites. The surrounding trees were beautiful and the swimming hole was in the shadow of Half Dome.
Brave Lola, she was the first to get all the way in!

Yes, that's me and Lola in the middle of the river. Ellie joined me later too!

Though the kids had fun at the river, they were even more amped to swim in the pool... of course! At least the view from the pool was pretty killer too!
and we all know a camping trip wouldn't be complete with out a sweet treat!

When heading to our next destination, we took our time as we drove east out of Yosemite and stopped at Tuolumne Meadows to hiked around a bit. The girls found quite a few creeks and ponds in which to play, they simply love water of all kinds.

What we were able to see in our two days was just the tip of the iceberg for what Yosemite has to offer. We will definitely be back! Tony and I were already making plans about our next trip to Yosemite. We decided that next time we go the girls will be a bit older and we will rent bikes to tour the Valley. We might opt for the lodge next time too.

From the words of Tony:
The beauty of Yosemite is indescribable.
We didn't just see the beautiful scenery, we felt it.
